Attacking Insulin Resistance in Type 2 Diabetes: A Novel Approach That Is Changing the Outlook for Patients

Diabetes remains a devastating chronic illness that costs the United States $98 billion each year, more than AIDS and breast cancer combined. Approximately 16 million Americans have diabetes, and Type 2 Diabetes accounts for nearly 95 percent of all diagnosed cases. It is now clear that Diabetes complications are caused by elevated blood sugar levels and may be prevented or reduced by improved control of blood sugar. Researchers have identified a novel approach, which involves targeting insulin resistance - now known to be a key underlying cause of the disease.
