Newswise — According to a study from Yale University, 42% of African American women have yet to get married. This number tells a story — but what are the details of this story? What are the layers behind the statistic?

42%: Single, African American and Female is a Circle of Knowledge event from The Family Institute at Northwestern University, a nonprofit organization that strengthens and heals f amilies and individuals from all walks of life.

The event will feature a panel of Family Institute expert staff therapists including Donna Baptiste, EdD, and Reginald Richardson, PhD, LCSW, as well as Apostolic Faith Church Bishop and Family Institute Board Member Horace Smith, MD. These mental health and relationship experts will explore the factors surrounding this statistic, including the unique challenges and opportunities single African American women face, the obstacles to marriage and how this trend impacts the community at large. Located at Apostolic Faith Church, 3823 S. Indiana, this event is free and open to the public, but tax-deductible donations are accepted. Registration for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. presentation.
