Newswise — A new nursing credential from AACN Certification Corporation provides a certification option for acute/critical care knowledge professionals.
Launched this month, CCRN-K certification is designed for nurses who do not work exclusively or primarily at the bedside but in their practice apply knowledge in a way that influences patients, nurses and/or organizations to have a positive impact on acutely and/or critically ill patients.
The CCRN-K certification program enables a broader spectrum of acute/critical care nurses to maintain or acquire certification — an accomplishment associated with recognition of specialty clinical knowledge and practice excellence. Many acute/critical care nurses who have transitioned to roles away from the bedside or who were not previously eligible for CCRN certification may now be eligible for CCRN-K.
“The new CCRN-K certification reflects the continued evolution of nursing within an ever-changing healthcare landscape,” said AACN Chief Clinical Officer Connie Barden, RN, MSN, CCRN-E, CCNS. “It acknowledges the crucial role nursing knowledge professionals have in optimizing the quality, safety and outcomes of care for acutely and critically ill patients.”
There are specific practice hour requirements for the CCRN-K credential. Nursing professionals in roles such as educator, manager, director and administrator may be eligible for CCRN-K, but not all nurses working in these roles will qualify. Nurses in other roles also may be eligible.
CCRN-K certification may be obtained through completion of an initial exam or as a renewal option for CCRN and CCRN-E certificants. As with CCRN certification, there are separate adult, pediatric and neonatal CCRN-K exams.
Potential candidates for CCRN-K certification can find additional information on the AACN Certification Corporation website, including eligibility requirements, FAQs, test plans, practice exam questions and other resources. Applications may be submitted online, and study materials are the same as those for CCRN and CCRN-E.
