Newswise — The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) is proud to announce that Daan Crommelin, Ph.D. will assume the position of editor of its Advances in Pharmaceutical Sciences book series. In the months ahead, Professor Crommelin will develop the aims and scope of this emerging series, establish an editorial board of topical experts, and collaborate with AAPS and its publishing partner, Springer, to propose new volumes and authors to develop the series.

“The Advances in Pharmaceutical Sciences series will be an authoritative source of reference for pharmaceutical scientists worldwide,” said Crommelin. “I am honored to lead this initiative for AAPS and its publishing partner Springer.”

Crommelin is presently scientific director of the Dutch Top Institute Pharma in Leiden, Netherlands. He is also professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics at Utrecht University, and adjunct professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Utah. He is co-founder of OctoPlus, a Leiden based company specializing in the development of pharmaceutical product formulations and advanced drug delivery systems. He has published extensively and is on the editorial board of 10 peer-reviewed journals in the pharmaceutical sciences.

“I am very pleased that Dr. Crommelin has agreed to head what will be an outstanding book series for AAPS members and the pharmaceutical community,” said AAPS Executive Director John Lisack, Jr. “Daan brings a global perspective to this initiative, which we anticipate will have world-wide impact.”

Crommelin chaired the Board of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, was chair of the organizing committee of the Pharmaceutical Sciences World Conference 2007 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He is a past-president of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Sciences and a member of the scientific advisory board of the European Innovative Medicines Initiative.
