A New Standard for Professional DevelopmentNewswise — For the first time, the field of radiology will have its own professional development and leadership academy starting in 2012 with the opening of the American College of Radiology’s Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI).

The innovative, multi-level, multi-year academy will feature world-class instructors from renowned universities offering MBA and MPH degrees, a range of advanced leadership courses building to levels of proficiency and certification, and the opportunity to earn CME.

“The ACR recognized the growing need for specialized leadership development in the increasingly dynamic healthcare environment,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR Commission on Leadership and Practice Development and medical director of the Radiology Leadership Institute. “RLI will satisfy that need with a robust curriculum relevant and targeted to all levels of radiology experience, whether in private practice or academia, including management fundamentals for residents, fellows and practicing physicians.”

A full curriculum of educational activities and programming will be offered, combining face-to-face learning in a variety of geographic locations, team projects, case analysis, and web-based distance learning.

The Institute’s inaugural event will take place July 12 – 15, 2012 at Northwestern University’s Evanston, IL campus. This one-time, invitation-only event (information at acr.org/RLI) will feature a variety of topics that will be developed into the Institute’s comprehensive curriculum.

The special event will feature collaboration of radiology leaders and professors from the prestigious Health Enterprise Management program of the Kellogg School of Management, one of the first of several university partners of RLI.

“ACR is committed to build RLI into the premier institution that will equip radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with the leadership skills they will need to shape the future of our profession,” said John A. Patti, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors. “With the ACR Education Center and the AIRP Rad-Path program, ACR has a proven track record of delivering top-quality learning to our profession.”

We will develop RLI into the new standard for preparing the radiology leaders of tomorrow and strengthening current leaders to compete in an ever-shifting landscape,” added Dr. Patti.
