Newswise — Reston, VA — The American College of Radiology (ACR) Education Center marked its 10,000th course registration, magnifying its powerful role in helping radiologists sharpen skills, strengthen practices and become better providers in a value-based collaborative health care system.

“The ACR Education Center, the training center for today’s clinician, continues to offer an unparalleled case-based training experience — giving radiologists hands-on instruction in an intense simulation environment from world-class faculty in various subspecialties,” said Pablo R. Ros, MD, MPH, PhD, FACR, the center’s physician-in-chief. “Over the years, the program has grown to meet the continued evolving needs of today’s radiologist,” he added.

The center now offers 16 courses, with two new ones scheduled for launch in 2017: Abdominal CT and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). Next year, the ACR Education Center will hold 49 courses at the College’s headquarters in Reston, Va.; 1 in Arizona; 4 in Sydney, Australia; and at least 2 in the Middle East.

“Typically, doctors register for multiple courses,” said Ros. Since opening its doors in March 2008, the center registers an average of 1,400 individuals annually. Among its most popular offerings are the Breast Imaging Boot Camp, Breast MR With Guided Biopsy, Musculoskeletal MR of Commonly Imaged Joints and Prostate MR.

“If one were to take every class offered at the center, he or she would spend 44 days in training and experience 16 courses,” said Ros. To demonstrate the program’s success, he noted that 98 percent of attendees say they will return for another course and more than 30 percent of attendees have completed more than one course at the center.

Education Center attendees who meet the case requirements specified for each course receive certificates indicating compliance with ACR Practice Parameters.
