Newswise — From catastrophic breakups to emotional ambivalence toward dating, most of us have experienced some form of uncertainty when it comes to forming an intimate partnership. But this does not change the fact that we as human beings all desire some form of romantic partnership. To some, achieving this may seem nearly impossible, which leads to the question: What does it take to form a healthy, lasting romantic partnership?

Based off of her soon-to-be published book, Loving Bravely: 20 Lessons of Self-Discovery to Help You Get the Love You Want (New Harbinger, February 2017) Dr. Alexandra Solomon, licensed clinical psychologist at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, will discuss how individuals can emotionally prepare themselves for relationships through the 6-session educational series Loving Bravely: A Relationship Readiness Course. Family Institute staff members Sara Klein, AMFT, Jessica Pryor, PhD, and/or Stan Selinger, PhD will be co-facilitating the sessions.

The course seeks to engage individuals between the ages of 18-35, single or dating, and provide them the tools to better understand how mindfulness and self-awareness shape the context of one’s intimate relationships in order to facilitate positive, fulfilling partnerships. Topics to be covered include creating and maintaining healthy boundaries; effective communication; living and loving mindfully; wholehearted sex; and navigating conflict.

Sessions will be held every Saturday over the course of 6 weeks from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., beginning October 15, at The Family Institute at Northwestern University's Evanston location (618 Library Place). Cost for participation is $360, with early registration encouraged due to limited space. Each participant will receive an advanced copy of Loving Bravely: 20 Lessons of Self-Discovery to Help You Get the Love You Want upon attending the first session.
