Newswise — Today the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that 500 prescription drugs used to treat colds, coughs and allergies will be removed from the market because the medications were not evaluated by the FDA for safety, effectiveness, and quality.

Dr. Stanley Fineman, president-elect of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) is available to discuss the impact that this announcement may have on patients with allergies.

Although some allergy medications may no longer be available, many effective and approved medications remain that can be prescribed to help allergy patients find relief. Patients with any concerns about their medication should contact their allergist.
