Newswise — DALLAS (Aug. 1, 2011) – Children’s Medical Center (www.childrens.com) is pleased to announce that Christopher J. Durovich, president and CEO of Children’s, is one of eight new members elected to the American Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees for a term beginning January 1, 2012. The Board of Trustees is the policy-making body of the AHA and has ultimate authority for the governance and management of its direction and finances.

Durovich's selection ensures that our state and our city's perspective on health care policy issues will be heard and considered.

Texas has many attributes not seen in other states: heavy population growth, an increasing number of uninsured patients and a rising Medicaid population. For these reasons, it is critical that the health-care needs of Texas are represented in Austin, and in our nation's capital as well.

Not only will Durovich be representing Children's Medical Center, he will also represent all the children of North Texas. Joining the AHA board gives him the opportunity to share some of the solution-based initiatives instituted at Children's with the entire health-care industry.

Durovich has more than 30 years of leadership experience in adult and pediatric health care and physician practice management. Prior to joining Children’s in 2003, Durovich served in leadership roles at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Michigan Health System and Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation. He also served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps.

Durovich served as chair of the Child Health Corporation of America and is a board member of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce. Other industry and civic leadership activities have included serving on the board of directors of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions; on the board and executive committee of the Texas Hospital Association; and on an AHA RPB and AHA’s Section for Maternal and Child Health. He is past chair of the Children’s Hospital Association of Texas, the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council and the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Health System CEO Council.

Durovich earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont, a Master of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and of the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Durovich also has served as an adjunct professor at Rice University in Texas.
