Newswise — Nominations are now being accepted for the 21st Annual Texas Family Business of the Year.

The awards will be presented November 4, 2010 at a banquet on the Baylor campus in Waco. Nominations will be accepted until Apr. 4, 2010. The Institute for Family Business at Baylor University hosts this annual awards ceremony to recognize and honor outstanding family enterprises from across the state of Texas.

"We honor family-owned businesses, large and small, which care for their families, customers, employees and communities. Many have overcome hardship and adversity in order to keep their business successful and family relationships intact." said David Allen, Director of the John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship.

Past winners include Hewlett Family of Dealerships in Georgetown, Gohlke Pools in Denton and United Supermarkets in Lubbock.

Winners are chosen from three general categories - large (more than 151 employees), medium (51-150 employees) and small (50 or fewer employees). Outstanding firms are also honored in the special categories of Family Values Award, Community Commitment Award, Fastest-Growing Family Business Award, Well-Managed Family Business Award, Founders Award and Heritage Award.

The entries are judged on the following criteria: family involvement, community and industry involvement and business success and succession.
