Stephen Russo, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and an assistant professor at NSU’s Center for Psychological Services. He is also the director of NSU’s Sport Psychology Program and the Sport Medicine Clinic within NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. This brings together a multi-disciplinary sports medicine team made up of experts from osteopathic medicine, physical therapy, athletic training, sports nutrition and strength and conditioning. Russo is also an active member of both the Association for Applied Sport Psychology and the Sport & Exercise Division of the American Psychological Association. Russo is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on sports-related concussion, sport psychology and mental training. At NSU, Russo and a team of physicians routinely see patients with sport-related concussions – including high-school aged athletes, and younger – to determine the severity of their injury and to help manage the “return-to-play” process.
