Newswise — CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia — The University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the Darden School Foundation today announced the election of a new trustee, Bruce R. Thompson (MBA `90), who will serve a three-year term, effective immediately.

“We are very excited for Bruce to join our board,” said Phil Knisely, chair of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees. “His management experience in the financial services industry will be a valuable addition to the group, and we look forward to collaborating with him at the trustee level.”

Bruce Thompson is chief financial officer at Bank of America with responsibility for all finance functions as well as Corporate Treasury, Global Corporate Strategy Planning and Development, Investor Relations, Corporate Investments and Global Principal Investments. He is a member of the company’s executive management team.

Prior to his current role, Thompson was chief risk officer for Bank of America, responsible for working with the company’s lines of business to identify and navigate credit, market and operational risk to support sustainable growth by the corporation. Thompson also served as managing director and head of Global Capital Markets (GCM) at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. As head of GCM, he had accountability for Equity Capital Markets, Investment Grade Capital Markets, Leveraged Acquisition Finance, High Yield Capital Markets, Debt Advisory Services, Loan Capital Markets and Global Origination for Rates and Currencies. Before serving as the head of GCM, Thompson held senior leadership positions in the Global Credit Products (GCP) group, including co-head of the entire GCP platform and head of Global Leveraged Finance.

“Bruce will bring valuable insights as a senior finance executive to his role as a new member of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees,” said Bob Bruner, dean of the Darden School of Business and Charles C. Abbott Professor of Business Administration. “The board of trustees and I enthusiastically welcome him, and we look forward to drawing from his experience.”

Thompson joined Bank of America as a managing director in 1996. Prior to joining the company, he spent the majority of his career with Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Thompson is also a member of the board of trustees of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
