Who:Toronto Western Hospital and University Health Network host The Honourable Kellie Leitch, M.D., Minister of Labour and Minister Responsible for Status of Women at the Krembil Discovery Tower

What:Celebrating the new nine-storey building, a $174-million endeavor, which will foster research in neural and visual sciences, musculoskeletal disease, and illnesses and disorders such as spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis and age-related blindness.

The world-class Krembil Discovery Tower was funded by a combination of hospital financing, research grants and the support of many philanthropists. Why:The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) gave approximately $30 million in grant funding to support the development of the space and research infrastructure within the Krembil Discovery Tower. CFI also contributed another $10.9 towards equipment, such as highly specialized, non-invasive imaging systems to measure brain and spinal cord function. Altogether, UHN has received $265 million to support research across its four sites and five research institutes.
