Newswise — Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, publisher of Clinical Nurse Specialist, the official journal of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and award sponsor announces the recipient of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Foundation scholarship. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins is part of Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading provider of information and business intelligence for students, professionals, and institutions in medicine, nursing, allied health, pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry.

The CNS Foundation scholarship recognizes a clinical nurse specialist who has made important contributions to the field. This year's recipient is Ms. Pamela Minarik. She is a CNS with more than 20 years experience in nursing practice, having been a regulatory advocate, editor, faculty and practitioner.

Minarik is an advocate of regulatory and legislative issues and implications affecting advance practice nurses. As the senior editor and originator of the "Legislative and Regulatory Update" column in Clinical Nurse Specialist, Minarik is recognized as a pioneer in bringing regulatory and legislative issues to the forefront at a time when no national organization addressed these issues at a state or national level. Minarik served as faculty at University of California San Francisco, Yale University, Aomari University, Japan, and Hunan Medical University, China.

The focus of Minarik's practice is in psychiatric consultation in tertiary settings. It is her hope to drive innovation in practice in the care of patients with depression, sleep disturbances, and co-morbid medical illness. According to Minarik, these symptoms are "often indistinguishable and appropriate interventions are not sought." Minarik will complete her Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing in June 2008. Her dissertation deals specifically with this topic and includes a global cross-cultural approach to mid-life women.
