Newswise — Classified or not, Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of information was illegal and she should be prosecuted, says Texas A&M University Professor of Law Ron Sievert, a former Department of Justice attorney. Sievert says Clinton’s repeated assertions that the information on her unprotected server was not classified is a “smokescreen,” adding the applicable statute (18 USC 793) doesn’t mention the word “classified.” Rather, he says, the law focuses on “information respecting the national defense.” Sievert asserts the approximately 2,000 Clinton email messages in question meet that standard.
