Roberts says:

“A relic of the Cold War, Colombia's civil war long ago lost most of its political and ideological rationale, yet it lingered on well past the civil wars in neighboring countries like Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

“The implementation of the peace accords will pose a series of challenges to the Colombian government, but it also creates opportunities to open up the political arena and create more inclusive forms of democratic representation.”
