New program focuses on the adult learner

Newswise — OMAHA, Neb.--Creighton University announces a new, fully-online bachelor’s degree for adult learners. The Bachelor of Science in Integrated Leadership provides adult professionals with an accessible, affordable and career-relevant education. Although select undergraduate courses have long been available in web-based formats at Creighton, this is the first fully-online bachelor’s degree program offered by the university. Applications are now being accepted for entrance in January 2013.

“Our degree focuses on the integrated and interdisciplinary nature of leadership studies, which requires leaders to be knowledgeable in a number of fields,” explains Gail Jensen, Ph.D., Dean of University College and Graduate School, and Associate Vice President for Research, Academic Affairs. “Creighton is leveraging the expertise and programs of our nine schools and colleges to offer multi-disciplinary courses from faculty from such diverse backgrounds as business, community and health care.”

Learning goals and student outcomes were developed by analyzing national hiring trends, as well as input from core faculty and staff, local employers and alumni.

“We will help adult professionals connect their education to their respective careers in real and tangible ways, recognizing that employers desire to hire individuals who are excellent communicators, critical and creative thinkers, project managers, and who can conduct themselves ethically,” Jensen added.

Creighton’s newest degree program stands apart for its ability to bring together students and faculty from diverse disciplines and backgrounds to create a unique learning community.

The program’s curriculum integrates the student’s skills and experiences, making it especially relevant to personal and professional goals. Up to 80 hours of credit can be transferred into the program. Credits are also available for prior learning through portfolio assessment.

Students are able to choose from optional specializations in health care management, non-profit management and human capital management.

Online, eight-week terms and several start dates throughout the year will allow flexibility and accelerated completion.
