Van Tassel is a health law professor at Creighton University. She is a writer and presenter at health law conferences whose scholarship is regularly relied on by appellate courts. She maintains a blog on health and healthcare law: lawprofessors.typepad.com/healthlawprof_blog/.

This year, the Supreme Courts of Nevada and New Mexico cited her papers on the hospital peer review process: “Blacklisted: The Constitutionality of the Federal System for Publishing Reports of ‘Bad’ Doctors in the National Practitioners Data Bank,” 33 Cardozo L. Rev. 2031 (2012), and “Hospital Peer Review Standards and Due Process: Moving from Tort Theories to Contract Principles Based on Clinical Practice Guidelines,” 36 Seton Hall L. Rev. 1179 (2006).

Van Tassel has served on the Executive Board of the Law, Medicine and Healthcare Section of the American Association of Law Schools, on the Executive Board of the Law and Mental Disability Section of the American Association of Law Schools and as the Co-Chair of the Food & Drug Law Committee of the Administrative Law Section of the American Bar Association.
