‘Infection prevention through the decades’ is conference theme Newswise — More than 4,600 attendees will gather June 8-10 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the 40th Annual Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) to share and present leading-edge science on the prevention of infection.
To commemorate 40 years of advancement, the opening plenary session will highlight milestones in infection prevention over the past four decades. Twelve distinguished speakers from universities, hospitals, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will discuss the moments that defined the profession and the breakthroughs that have improved outcomes and saved lives.
APIC Annual Conference attendees will hear a closing keynote address from Nathan Wolfe, founder of the Global Viral Forecasting Initiative. Wolfe, who was named one of TIME’s ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’ in 2011 and a frequent speaker at TED conferences, will address attendees on the topic of viral forecasting for pandemic prevention.
The conference will feature more than 90 educational sessions and workshops led by infection prevention experts. CDC professionals will lead seven workshops on the National Healthcare Safety Network, the CDC’s infection tracking system. The conference aims to provide infection preventionists with tools and strategies that are easily adaptable and can be implemented immediately to improve prevention programs.

In its third year, the APIC Film Festival will feature videos sharing best practices in infection prevention.
