Newswise — David Shegan, the director of VSP of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, recently received a Baltimore Workforce Investment Board Business Award for Workforce Development Excellence on behalf of his staff. VSP was selected in the category of Preparing the Future Workforce for hiring, providing internships and mentoring Baltimore City young people between the ages of 14 and 21. Shegan received the honor from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

Operating within the Sinai Hospital/LifeBridge Health network, VSP’s mission is to maximize opportunities for young people who face significant barriers to getting jobs. VSP has been providing vocational rehabilitation and employment opportunities to youth and adults with disabilities and who are in economic need in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area (primarily Baltimore City) for more than 45 years. Every year, nearly 300 people take part in its programs.

VSP accomplishes its mission by providing a pool of qualified candidates for the local labor market, especially in the healthcare sector. Among the services that VSP offers are: career assessment, work readiness at LifeBridge Health, office technology training, youth transition services, job placement and direct employment.
