Newswise — MACOMB, IL — Western Illinois University's Homeland Security Research Program Director Dean Alexander is available for interviews regarding the Dec. 2 attack in San Bernardino (CA).

According to Alexander, while it is too early to confirm the Dec. 2 attack — which killed at least 14 people and injured dozens more — was a terrorist act, there are some indicators that suggest that premise.

"The two suspects killed in the incident, Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, who was born in the United States, and his Pakistani-born wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27, were another example of family-affiliated violence," he said.

Last month, Alexander authored authored two op-eds that predicted another Islamic State/ISIS attack on U.S. soil and the phenomenon of family-affiliated terrorism (see links below):

"ISIS attack in U.S. may only be a matter of time," Peoria Journal Star, Nov. 21, 2015www.pjstar.com/article/20151121/OPINION/151129914/2011/OPINION

"Paris attacks and ISIS in the family," The State Journal-Register, Nov. 20, 2015 http://m.sj-r.com/article/20151120/OPINION/151129973/13312/OPINION

In addition, Alexander's book (published in Sept. 2015), "The Islamic State: Combating the Caliphate Without Borders" (Lexington Books, 2015), provides critical background information and analysis about the Islamic State's multifaceted activities and effects in the region and beyond, as well as measures to combat it.
