The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to hold an emergency meeting Feb. 1 to address the ongoing Zika virus outbreak in the Americas. The health organization created a list in December to prioritize which diseases were likely to cause outbreaks in the near future after the world was caught off guard by an Ebola outbreak the previous year.

Susan Daniel, associate professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Cornell University, is available to discuss the challenges of understanding and helping to develop vaccines for emerging diseases.

Daniel and her research colleagues can also provide more information on their work and current progress on developing vaccines for SARS, MERS and Ebola, three diseases that were named to the World Health Organization’s list of “Top Emerging Diseases Likely to Cause Major Epidemics”.
