Distinguished Piano Professor available to speak on passing of Van Cliburn, the American pianist who became a cold war hero by taking first-place at the 1958 Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, who died today (Feb 27) at 78 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Alexander Kobrin was born in 1980 in Moscow, Russia. He completed his studies in Moscow under the tutelage and direction of Professor Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin School of Music and legendary Professor Lev Naumov at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he also received his Master's Degree. Professor Kobrin is the winner of several international piano competitions, including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Busoni International Piano Competition, Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and Glasgow International Piano Competition.
Kobrin continues to tour extensively in Europe, Asia and the USA, giving recitals and performances with orchestras in many major music halls, such as Albert Hall in London, Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Wigmore Hall in London, Avery Fisher Hall in NYC, Herkulesaal in Munich, Sala Verdi in Milan, Saller Cortot in Paris, Louvre Auditorium in Paris, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, and Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center, among others.
Kobrin has collaborated with many major orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Verdi, Orchestra Swiss Romande, Moscow Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, Berlin Symphony, Chicago Sinfonietta, BBC Symphony, and many others.
Kobrin is a regular guest at many piano and chamber music festivals: Schloss Elmau Piano festival, LaRoque-d'Anthéron, Ruhr Klavier Festival, Busoni Piano Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Homecoming Festival are among them. He has performed for both TV and Radio in many countries in Europe, Asia as well as the USA, and has recorded several CDs for international labels with solo and chamber music repertoire.
Alexander Kobrin taught at the Moscow State Gnessin Academy of Music from 2003, and has given masterclasses throughout Europe, Asia, and the USA. He has also been a jury member of several international piano competitions in Paris, Vienna, and Moscow. Kobrin has also been a faculty member on the International Keyboard Festival in Mannes School of Music in NYC since 2005. Alexander Kobrin is an Artist Faculty at Steinhardt School of Culture at NYU, New York City.
