Benjamin O. Anderson, M.D., is chair and director of the Breast Health Global Initiative at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where he is also a joint member of the Epidemiology Program in the Public Health Sciences Division.
The BHGI develops resource-stratified guidelines for breast cancer early detection, diagnosis and treatment in low- and middle-income countries.
On the U.S. delegation to the 58th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Anderson contributed to the 2005 World Health Organization Cancer Prevention and Control Resolution. In 2012, he was elected to the board of directors of the Union for International Cancer Control, the oldest international professional organization addressing global cancer control.
He chairs the National Comprehensive Cancer Network International Program Committee and in 2013 was the recipient of the National Consortium of Breast Centers' Inspiration Award in recognition of his dedication and efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of breast cancer care around the globe.
Anderson is also on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he is a professor of global health and surgery.
His clinical practice also includes serving as director of the Breast Health Clinic at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
