Newswise — Dr. Robert G. Grossman, chairman of neurosurgery and co- director of the Methodist Neurological Institute, will receive the Rick Hansen Difference Maker award for his outstanding contributions in the field of spinal cord injury research.
This award from the Rick Hansen Foundation commemorates the 25th anniversary of Hansen’s Man in Motion World Tour, when Hansen and his team wheeled through 34 countries and raised $26 million to promote awareness about people with disabilities.
Grossman is known internationally for his contributions to advancing the treatment of head and spinal cord injuries (SCI), Parkinson’s disease, dystonia and epilepsy. He is the principal investigator for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s North American Clinical Trials Network, a network of hospitals in the United States and Canada focused on translating SCI research into treatments for patients.
The Rick Hansen Difference Maker award is given to individuals and organizations making significant contributions in SCI research, and to those whose work has made an impact in accessibility for the disabled.Hansen, who sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of 15, will present this award to Grossman at the Difference Makers celebration on June 22 in Washington, D.C.
