Newswise — The GreenHouse offers a variety of programs for youth and their families. All together, these programs serve approximately 350 youth each year. Sacramento State students and faculty are a major partner in this effort.

Evidence of Positive Impact:1. According to a study conducted by a research team at Sac State, between Fall 2014 and Winter 2014, elementary students participating in the GreenHouse program experienced significant increases in reading performance and their confidence in achieving good grades in school.

2. After three years of advocacy by GreenHouse youth in the organization's "Leaders in Newswise — Training" team, a new soccer field at the local NiƱos Park has been installed by the City of Sacramento. The City invested over $180,000 to fix sprinklers, put up new signs, install goal posts, and plant new sod grass for a fully renovated field for the community's use. The GreenHouse plans to make extensive use of this new field with soccer clinics and leagues for kids.

3. The GreenHouse launched a "GreenHouse Graduates" program in 2014 for young women who are now in a college and/or career track. Some of these young women were part of The GreenHouse since the first grade. This group of 10-12 young women meet every six weeks for mutual encouragement, goal setting, spiritual formation, and fun. They meet with mentors from the board of directors in between the group meetings for mentoring.

4. For the second summer in a row, the GreenHouse conducted its "Summer Academy" for incoming 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, with a focus on art, science, and academic preparation for junior high and high school. Led by its partners at the Sacramento Waldorf School and supported by GreenHouse summer staff, this group made several college visits, went on field trips, learned complex fractions through baking and cooking, and produced five scenes from Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet that they performed in front of their parents and siblings.
