Newswise — Reston, VA — Leonard A. Schlesinger, DBA, MBA, entrepreneurship expert, Harvard Business School professor and author of the recent book, “What Great Service Leaders Know and Do: Creating Breakthroughs in Service Firms,” will deliver the Sept. 9 keynote address at the American College of Radiology’s (ACR’s) Radiology Leadership Institute® (RLI) Summit.
Schlesinger, who has also served as president of Babson College, in Wellesley, Mass., the top-ranked college for entrepreneurship education — and site of the annual RLI Summit — will address “What Great Radiology Leaders Know and Do.” The fifth annual meeting, which will be held Sept. 8–11, focuses on “Leading Value Creation – Personal and Organizational.”
“This year’s dynamic keynoter has addressed issues of strategy, service quality, customer satisfaction, entrepreneurship, human resources and organizational change for more than 200 major corporations, non-profit organizations, governments and international leadership organizations around the world,” said Frank J. Lexa, MD, MBA, RLI chief medical officer and chair of the American College of Radiology Commission on Leadership and Practice Development. “The annual summit is the flagship RLI event for radiologists and allied health professionals to come together with their peers and colleagues to gain the critical nonclinical skills they need to succeed in our rapidly changing health care system,” he noted.
Schlesinger, the Baker Foundation Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School in Boston, has regularly transitioned between academic and managerial roles in educational and business settings throughout his career. At Harvard, he has taught courses in organizational behavior, organization design, human resources management, general management, leadership and service management.
At Babson, he successfully managed the challenges of improving academic, reputational and financial outcomes for a uniquely positioned college. In addition, he has held a number of key executive and operating positions (ending as vice chair and chief operating officer) at Limited Brands (now L Brands) from 1999–07, was a professor of sociology and public policy and senior vice president and counselor to the president at Brown University from 1998–99, and was executive vice president and chief operating officer at Au Bon Pain from 1985–88.
His writings on entrepreneurship, service management and organizational management have been widely published. He has served on the editorial boards of five major academic journals. Schlesinger currently serves as lead director of Demandware Inc., director of Viewpost LLC and Restoration Hardware, Inc. He is a member of the advisory board of the Emory-Georgia Healthcare Innovation Program.
