Newswise — April 22, 2014 -- The opening session of the Federation of State Medical Boards Annual Meeting will be webcast live from Denver, Colorado on Thursday, April 24 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Mountain Time. The webcast is free and open to the public.

A highlight of the morning's programming will be a special panel discussion titled "The Future of Patient-Centered Care," to be moderated by health care journalist Susan Dentzer, known for her reporting with the PBS NewsHour, National Public Radio, and other media outlets.

Joining Ms. Dentzer on the panel, which begins at 10:15 a.m. Mountain Time, will be: Yvette Fontenot, MPP, Partner at the premier government affairs firm, Avenue Solutions; Marci Nielsen, PhD, MPH, CEO of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative; Kavita Patel, MD, Fellow and Managing Director of the Engelberg Center for Healthcare Reform, Brookings Institution; and Gregory B. Snyder, MD, an interventional radiologist and member of the FSMB Board of Directors.

8:20 - 8:50 a.m. Your Federation at WorkHumayun J. Chaudhry, DO, MACP, President and CEO of the FSMB, will highlight the new and ongoing initiatives and services undertaken by the FSMB as it works with and for its members to improve the quality, safety and integrity of health care.

8:50 - 9:20 a.m. ACGME InternationalThomas J. Nasca, MD, CEO of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and ACGME International, will provide an update of various new developments in graduate medical education.

9:20 - 9:45 a.m. Centennial of the National Board of Medical ExaminersDonald Melnick, MD, MACP, President and CEO of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), will lead a session celebrating the Centennial of NBME.

The FSMB Annual Meeting provides education and discussion forums for members and staff of state medical boards, as well as individuals interested in medical licensing, regulation and discipline. The meeting is also the occasion for the FSMB House of Delegates to vote on important policy proposals, election of FSMB officers for 2014-2015 and investiture of the new FSMB Chair and newly elected officers.
