Newswise — EULESS, TEXAS (June 10, 2014) – The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) has released its 2014 Annual Report, titled “Connecting for Success,” highlighting progress the FSMB has made over the last year on a number of its key initiatives.

Included in the 2014 report are updates on FSMB’s advocacy and policy initiatives in Washington, D.C.; major enhancements to the organization’s licensure, credentialing and data services; expanded educational outreach; and much more. The report also highlights in a special section the achievements and innovations of various state medical boards over the last year.

“In today’s rapidly changing environment, organizations cannot expect to ‘go it alone’ — there are simply too many moving parts in our health care system, and too much at stake in our health care future, for anything other than integrated action,” said CEO and President Humayun J. Chaudhry, DO, MACP. “That’s why we have chosen ‘Connecting for Success’ as the theme for this year’s annual report. This is a time of new partnerships, new synergies, and new outreach for the FSMB — and we believe these factors will accelerate our ability to meet the challenges ahead more effectively than ever.”

Among many highlights, the report provides the following updates:

• In one of the most significant developments in medical regulation in decades, state medical boards made significant progress in creating an Interstate Medical Licensure Compact – an additional pathway for state medical licensing that would significantly reduce barriers for physicians who wish to practice in multiple states.

• In the midst of the nation’s opioid abuse and misuse crisis, the FSMB continues to be a prime provider of important educational resources to help physicians learn to prescribe safely and responsibly.

• A new integrated-data architecture has improved FSMB’s Physician Data Center, enhancing the flow and availability of disciplinary information, while technology upgrades benefited the increasing number of users of such products as the Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) and the Uniform Application for Physician State Licensure (UA), both of which continue to grow.
