December 14th marks the 1-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Newtown, CT. Experts with the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research are available to contribute to your reporting. In addition to commenting on what has happened with respect to state and federal policies in the past year, and gun violence prevention research, there are a number of relevant issues which faculty can discuss, including: Kids and Gunso What policies and programs work to prevent shootings (intentional and accidental) in young people?o How does the U.S. compare to other countries with respect to homicide and suicide in young people, and why?o What are the most important research questions left to address in terms of gun violence prevention and young people?

Mental Illness and Gunso What do we know about the risk for gun violence among people with a history of mental illness, and are there critical times to intervene?o What policies should states and the Fed government consider in terms of firearms possession and purchasing among high-risk individuals?o What are future research priorities re guns/mental health?

Personalized Gunso How do personalized guns work, and what is the history of developing and marketing them?o When can consumers in the U.S. expect to be able to purchase personalized guns?o Should states be enacting laws to mandate that all new handguns be personalized?
