Newswise — Harris Health System has named Dr. Parikshet A. Babber its new executive vice president and chief medical officer to oversee quality, utilization management and medical staff services for the safety-net healthcare system.

“As incoming chief medical officer, Dr. Babber’s clinical acumen and energy, coupled with his focus on quality and patient safety will help guide Harris Health to the next level of excellence in patient care,” says George V. Masi, president and CEO, Harris Health System. Babber, a resident of Pearland, has been with Harris Health for two years serving most recently as senior vice president of medical affairs. In his new role, he’ll focus on the quality and outcomes of patient care throughout the 46-facility system that includes hospitals, health centers, specialty facilities, school-based clinics, same-day clinics and mobile health units. A significant emphasis for Harris Health is improving the community’s health through promotion of primary care, prevention and disease management.

“One of my goals is to improve quality outcomes and enhance patient safety at Harris Health System,” Babber says. “I’m very excited and honored to be in this position, and feel I can accomplish a lot for our system and our community.”

His other goal is to promote the collaboration with physician partners from Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, nursing and other support staff to focus on achieving higher scores for medical staff and patient satisfaction.

Babber has 12 years of healthcare experience which includes roles at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Administration Medical Center and Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. During his tenure at M.D. Anderson, he received the division quality improvement project of the year.

Babber received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and did his internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He received his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston-Victoria and his bachelor’s degree from Houston Baptist University.

A former resident of Sugar Land, Babber is married with a son and now lives in Pearland.
