Newswise — SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (May 20, 2015) — Board-certified dermatologist Henry W. Lim, MD, FAAD, has been elected president of the American Academy of Dermatology (Academy), the world’s largest dermatologic society, which represents more than 19,000 physicians who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair and nail conditions. Dr. Lim also will hold this position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He will be installed as president-elect in March 2016 and hold the office of president for one year beginning in March 2017.

“Today’s rapidly changing health care environment presents many challenges, and I look forward to giving back to my specialty by working to address these challenges,” Dr. Lim says. “As we take action to position dermatology for the future, I will ensure that the Academy continues to serve as a voice for the specialty through its advocacy and education efforts.”

Dr. Lim earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., and completed his dermatology residency at the New York University School of Medicine. He is the chairman of the department of dermatology and Clarence S. Livingood Chair in Dermatology at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit.

Dr. Lim previously served the Academy as vice president and a member of its board of directors. He is the current chair of the Academy’s Research Agenda Committee, and the former chair of the Council on Science and Research and the Scientific Assembly Committee.

Dr. Lim is the current president of the American Dermatological Association and a past president of the American Board of Dermatology. He has published more than 200 articles and served as editor or co-editor of five textbooks.
