Newswise — RIO DE JANEIRO—June 11, 2012—The International Institute for Sustainable Development is kicking off its coverage and participation at the Rio+20 summit with a primer on what delegates and participants need to know to make the most of the world gathering aimed at refocusing attention on sustainable development.

IISD is marking the 20th anniversary of the Earth Negotiations Bulletin, which was created for the first Earth Summit in Rio in 1992. The IISD side event takes place at 3:15 pm on Wednesday, June 13, in Athlete’s Park, as part of the opening celebration of the Rio Conventions Pavilion, followed by a reception, hosted by IISD, the Rio Conventions Pavilion partners.

IISD’s Langston James “Kimo” Goree VI, Pamela Chasek, Peter Doran, and other high profile insiders will provide an insider’s briefing on the negotiations, titled “Rio in Perspective,” and share their knowledge about the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).

Event highlights include: The launch of IISD’s new mobile app and support for the UN’s PaperSmart initiative.Goree will present on the advances in knowledge management services for sustainable development.

Chasek will share insights featured in her book (co-edited by Lynn Wagner), The Roads from Rio: Lessons Learned from Twenty Years of Multilateral Environmental Negotiation. Doran will provide insights on the state of the negotiations heading into Rio.IISD Reporting Services will also be introducing ENB Mobile, a handheld application to facilitate participation in Rio+20 and other environmental negotiations. ENB Mobile will enable participants to follow the negotiations and selected side events. ENB Mobile also provides access to real-time content such as a “curated” Twitter feed and Sustainable Development Policy & Practice news feed, and more.
