Newswise — July 9, 2014— Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information and point-of-care solutions for the healthcare industry, and the International Association for the Study of Pain® (IASP)—the leading professional organization for science, practice, and education in the field of pain—today announced an agreement to publish the association’s official peer-reviewed journal, PAIN®, effective with the January 2015 issue. PAIN® will be published under the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) journal portfolio providing print, online and digital access for IASP members, individual subscribers, and institutional users globally.

“From its very beginning, IASP has built its reputation as a professional organization on a commitment to high-quality research and education in the field of pain research and management,” said IASP President Dr. Fernando Cervero of McGill University in Montreal, Canada. “As we embark on the journal’s 40th year of publication, PAIN maintains an unrelenting commitment to quality and independence. We look forward to our partnership with Wolters Kluwer to broaden the journal’s scope and offer exciting options to our readers.”

The LWW publishing team will enhance PAIN’s publication channels with print, online, and digital platforms. IASP members will have free mobile access to PAIN through smartphones and tablet apps. Institutional libraries affiliated with hospitals, medical schools, and corporations globally will be able to access PAIN through the Ovid© medical research platform. Ovid, part of Wolters Kluwer Health, is a world-class research platform offering more premium evidence-based resources and current clinical content than any other solution.

“We’re delighted that the International Association for the Study of Pain has selected Wolters Kluwer to publish its official journal,” said Jayne Marks, Vice President Global Publishing, Wolters Kluwer Health, Medical Research. “With the explosive growth in the field of pain research globally, we are well positioned to evolve PAIN’s content strategy with multichannel digital solutions that drive user engagement and expand its readership in international markets.”

PAIN is the top-ranked of 29 journals in anesthesiology, as measured by Journal Citation Reports® (Thomson Reuters). In clinical neurology, it ranks in the top 7% of 191 journals and in the neurosciences in the top 12% of 251 journals. Published monthly, PAIN reaches nearly 8,000 IASP members worldwide, providing a forum for the dissemination of multidisciplinary research in the basic and clinical sciences. Francis J. Keefe, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University in North Carolina, is the journal’s editor-in-chief.
