Led by Richard Neibart, M.D., medical director of Meridian CardioVascular Network and chief of Cardiac Surgery, the program continues to expand with the recruitment of Kourosh T. Asgarian, D.O.

Dr. Asgarian joins Jersey Shore’s Cardiac Surgery team, which also includes Brook Dejene, M.D., David Johnson, M.D., and Benjamin Youdelman, M.D. Jersey Shore is rated by U.S. News & World Report as a high performing hospital for its quality of care in heart failure and heart bypass surgery. Prior to joining Jersey Shore, Dr. Asgarian served as chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, where he developed and directed the TAVR and Structural Heart Program. He also led the minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery programs, and performed robotic cardiac surgery. Previously, he practiced at Staten Island University Hospital in New York and Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.

He earned his medical degree from The New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York; and completed his General Surgery residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital in New Jersey. He completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.

The Cardiac Surgery Program at Jersey Shore started in 1990 and the team has performed about 20,000 surgeries during this period, including: heart valve replacement, heart valve repair, aortic surgery, bypass surgery and TAVR.
