Newswise — On July 11, Peter Cancro, founder and CEO of Jersey Mike’s Subs, chaired Jersey Shore University Medical Center Foundation’s 33rd annual Sports Classic Golf Tournament at the Deal Golf and Country Club and Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ. The sold-out event hosted 260 golfers, and raised a record-breaking $340,000 in support of cardiovascular programs and other areas of greatest need at Jersey Shore, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health family. Bob Mullen, chief executive office of Structure Tone and J. Scott Ferguson, vice president of Carrickmore, served as co-chairs.

Jersey Shore is the region’s leading provider of cardiac care, offering the most complete range of heart and vascular services – from prevention and diagnosis to advanced surgery, rehabilitation through recovery. “We can’t lose sight of how fortunate we are to have this level of care right in our backyard,” explained Peter Cancro. “This event was the most successful golf outing in Meridian’s history and I couldn’t be more proud of the community for contributing and supporting Jersey Shore’s tradition of excellent cardiac care.”

In addition to enhancing its cardiovascular services, Jersey Shore continues to expand with the upcoming HOPE Tower – a $265 million dollar building development on the hospital’s east campus that will provide a new healing outpatient experience for the community. Scheduled to open in 2018, the new ten-story building will include a comprehensive cancer center, outpatient imaging services, a clinical academic center, an innovative simulation laboratory, pediatric services and a nine-level parking garage with more than 1,500 new parking spaces for patients, guests and team members. “We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support received during the 33rd annual Sports Classic,” shared Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, president of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. “As we continue to grow and provide more health care services for the community, including HOPE Tower, philanthropic support helps us achieve our goal to provide the best health care experience.”

The Sports Classic committee is grateful for the generous support of leadership sponsors this year, which includes the Event Sponsor, Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems, Inc., Tournament Benefactors, L.F. Driscoll and Structure Tone, Inc., and Outing Sponsor, Little Silver Electric, Inc.
