Newswise — Chicago(October 31, 2012): A two-year international collaboration process between American and Chinese surgeons has led to the development of a new Chinese-language edition of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS), the official scientific publication of the American College of Surgeons. The first issue will be released November 2012.

The Chinese edition of JACS will be distributed across China and an electronic version will be hosted on the website of the journal’s publisher, Elsevier Science, Inc. The new edition consists of a brief preface and commentary by the edition’s editor, Yupei Zhao, MD, FACS (Hon), Beijing, China, along with translations of selected articles from the English-language edition of JACS. Timothy Eberlein, MD, FACS, the Editor-in-Chief of JACS, secured an agreement with Elsevier to publish the new quarterly edition. “Publishing a Chinese edition of JACS presents a good opportunity to increase the reach of the journal among new Chinese readers, and increase opportunities for Chinese authors to submit more scientific papers to the journal,” Dr. Eberlein said.

First published in 1905 as Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, the journal was renamed Journal of the American College of Surgeons in 1994. Its goal is to provide its readership with the highest quality rapid retrieval of information relevant to surgeons. JACS is a monthly peer-reviewed journal publishing original contributions on all aspects of surgery, including original scientific articles, collective reviews, and experimental investigations with clear clinical relevance.
