Newswise — EULESS, TEXAS (August 17, 2016) – The Journal of Medical Regulation (JMR) announced that it has named Heidi M. Koenig, MD, a Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, as the publication’s new Editor-in-Chief.

Published continuously since 1913 by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB), the quarterly, peer-reviewed JMR features studies and articles of interest to medical boards and organizations and individuals interested in medical licensing and regulation.

Dr. Koenig brings extensive experience as a medical regulator, educator, researcher and practicing physician to her new role with the Journal of Medical Regulation.

Since joining the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure in 2013, Dr. Koenig has served in a variety of leadership roles for the board, including serving on task forces on Standardized Minimum Sanctions and Telemedicine, and as the board’s representative to the Kentucky Board of Nursing APRN Council. Additionally, Dr. Koenig has been an active member of the Kentucky Society of Anesthesiology, serving as the organization’s president from 2010-2014.

Prior to joining the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2004, Dr. Koenig served on the Anesthesiology faculty at the University of Illinois – Chicago for more than a decade.

Dr. Koenig joined the FSMB Editorial Committee, which provides editorial guidance for the Journal of Medical Regulation, in 2015. She has more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in basic and clinical sciences. Her editorial experience also includes service as an Ad Hoc Editor for Metabolism, Anesthesia and Analgesia, Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology, British Journal of Anaesthesia and Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology.

Board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Koenig received her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical School and her Anesthesiology training at the University of Illinois – Chicago.
