Newswise — Volume 45, Issue 3, of the Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development (JRRD) features 13 articles aimed at furthering the understanding, treatment, and prevention of PTSD. This collection of articles from the nation's leading PTSD research centers features clinical reports on neuroimaging and brain wave analysis, risk factor analyses on measurement/assessment models, longitudinal studies on the impact of deployment on neurocognition and functioning, and reports on intervention trials.

Based on a recent RAND Corporation survey of nearly 2,000 veterans of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom, it is estimated that some 300,000 veterans who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan are suffering from PTSD or major depression.

Terence M. Keane, PhD, associate chief of staff for research at the VA Boston Healthcare System and director of the behavioral science division of VA's National Center for PTSD, headquartered in White River Junction, Vt., is the guest editor for this single-topic issue focused on PTSD. Keane is also a professor of psychology and professor and vice chairman of the division of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine. He is recognized internationally as a leading expert on trauma and PTSD and has authored numerous books, journal articles, and clinical guidelines on PTSD.
