Newswise — NEPTUNE, NJ – October 8, 2012 – K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center is proud to announce that Ken & Leslie Hitchner of Rumson, NJ, have generously donated $200,000 in support of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The gift is an important step towards the K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital Expansion, which supports the hospital’s goal of providing the best health care experience for the area’s pediatric population.

Since 2007, K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital has experienced tremendous growth in the demand for pediatric intensive care services. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit expansion will enable the hospital to continue providing the most advanced health services for the region’s sickest children. Central to the new expansion is the implementation of the “neighborhood” concept, or the concentrated area of care, where the four new PICU rooms will be built. The neighborhood concept, modeled after the innovative designs of Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Northwest Pavilion, supports patients in a modern, patient-focused setting. “We are thrilled to be part of the campaign to help the children in our community,” says Ken Hitchner, a Meridian Health board member.

The $5 million K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital Expansion Project includes the addition of a new 14 private room pediatric acute care unit, an expansion of the PICU, and a new home for the pediatric outpatient program with offices for specialty medical and dental services. “This expansion will give our outstanding team the best facilities to serve the sickest and most severely injured children in our region. We are grateful for the Hitchners’ support of K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital,” says Steven G. Littleson, FACHE, President of Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
