Newswise — (April 30, 2014) Kathryn L. Mueller, MD, MPH, FACOEM, Professor in the Department of Physiatry and the School of Public Health at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the Medical Director for the Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation in Denver, has been named the President of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM), the nation’s largest association representing occupational and environmental physicians.

Dr. Mueller was installed during ACOEM’s American Occupational Health Conference (AOHC), being held in San Antonio, Texas this week.

An expert in disability management, Dr. Mueller has held a variety of appointments and leadership positions related to treating disability in patients, including serving as Associate Editor of the American Medical Association’s Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment. She has had extensive experience in occupational health and workers’ compensation.

In addition to her role as President of ACOEM, she has previously served terms as Vice President, Director, and Secretary/Treasurer. She has served on and chaired a wide variety of ACOEM committees and work groups.

Dr. Mueller is a member of the Rocky Mountain Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (RMAOEM) and has served that organization as President, Vice President, and as a member of its Board of Directors.

She received her M.D. degree from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and her master’s in public health from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She is certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in occupational medicine and by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.

More than 1,000 occupational and environmental physicians, health care providers, policy makers, vendors, government employees and other health-related professionals are participating in the AOHC, which focuses on health and safety in the workplace. The meeting annually offers education, training and policy discussions for occupational and environmental medicine physicians, specially trained in the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of injuries and illnesses related to environmental and occupational exposures.
