Newswise — MAYWOOD, IL – Leading experts on cancer immunotherapy from around the country will gather May 19 for Loyola University Chicago’s 5th Annual Translational Science Symposium. The symposium will be held from 8 am to 5 pm at Loyola’s new Center for Translational Research and Education, 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood. The meeting is sponsored by Loyola Stritch School of Medicine’s cancer immunotherapeutics program. Immunotherapy harnesses a patient’s immune system to attack and kill cancer cells. “It’s one of the hottest new areas of cancer therapy, and it’s making a real impact on patients’ lives,” said Michael I. Nishimura PhD, program leader of Loyola’s cancer immunology program and co-director of Loyola’s Oncology Research Institute.
Eight nationally or internationally known speakers, who are leaders in their areas of cancer immunology, will speak. There also will be a poster session in which researchers will present their work. The symposium “represents an excellent opportunity for those interested in cancer immunology and immunotherapy to have relevant scientific interaction with leading experts,” Nishimura said.
