Manufacturers Help Infection Control Experts Make Sense of FDA Rules on Antiseptic Ingredients

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) will help infection control experts better understand the process and possible results from pending U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decisions on the safety and effectiveness of certain active ingredients used in healthcare antiseptics in early 2018. Dr. Paul DeLeo, ACI Associate Vice President, Environmental Safety, will be part of a team of experts speaking at the 2017 Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) and Epidemiology Convention in Portland, Oregon.

Researchers Unlock the Mysteries of Fabric Softener Science

Millions of consumers love the “softness” of their clothing after using liquid fabric softeners. Scientists from the Kao Corporation in Japan have unlocked the mechanism describing how these products work effectively on cloths and yarns, which could pave the way to more effective softening products. Their research was honored with the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) Distinguished Paper Award, recognizing the most outstanding research to appear in 2016 in the Journal of Surfactants and Detergents.

The Healthy Schools, Healthy People, It’s a SNAP! (School Network for Absenteeism Prevention) program is a joint initiative of the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to promote handwashing among students.

Consumer Cleaning Product Ingredient Safety Website Completed

Safety data on hundreds of chemicals in the U.S. consumer cleaning product supply chain have been collected and are now available through the website for the American Cleaning Institute’s (ACI) Cleaning Product Ingredient Safety Initiative (CPISI), ACI announced that more than five years of work on the Initiative has been finalized, providing reams of publicly available data on ingredients in cleaning products.

ACI Chronicles Decades of Cleaning Product Safety Research

Cleaning product manufacturers and suppliers have a lengthy history of carrying out and supporting research on the environmental fate and effects of cleaning product ingredients, according to an article by scientists at the American Cleaning Institute. Writing in SETAC Globe – a technical communication of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry – ACI’s science team lays out highlights of the Institute’s research over much of its 90-year history, including examples of novel approaches applied to down-the-drain consumer chemicals.
