CUR congratulates its 2023 Campus-Wide Award for Undergraduate Research Accomplishments (AURA) awardees College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University (CSBSJU) (St. Joseph, MN), University of Florida (UF) (Gainesville, FL), and Worchester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) (Worcester, MA). This award recognizes institutions with exemplary programs that provide high-quality research experiences for undergraduates. A celebration of these awardees will take place on June 11, virtually.

The STR Program is a competitive application-based professional development opportunity for teams consisting of a campus representative and one to three undergraduate students.

Lourdes Echegoyen, Ph.D. (The University of Texas at El Paso), Sean Fox (Carleton College), and Eric Hall, Ph.D. (Elon University) have been elected as general representatives on CUR's Executive Board for 2023-2024. These positions assist in providing the strategic direction of CUR, while supporting CUR's mission and strategic goals.

John F. Barthell, Ph.D. (University of Central Oklahoma/National Science Foundation), Lance Barton, Ph.D. (Austin College/University of North Carolina at Charlotte), and Winny Dong, Ph.D. (California State Polytechnic University at Pomona) have been elected to serve as council representatives on CUR's Executive Board. These positions assist in providing the strategic direction of CUR and represent the voice of its members while supporting CUR's mission and strategic goals.

Dr. Maria Iacullo-Bird, Assistant Provost for Research in the Office of Research and Clinical Associate Professor of History at the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences at Pace University, has been elected to serve as president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). Iacullo-Bird will become president-elect on July 1, 2023, taking a seat on CUR's Executive Board, and succeeding 2023-2024 CUR president Bethany Usher (George Mason University) in the summer of 2024.

Amid the current cultural narrative diminishing the value of higher education, a prolonged pandemic that has exacerbated inequities in so many ways, an increasing focus on workforce development, legislative mandates, and changing student populations, the importance of bridging the impact of undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative inquiry (URSCI) experiences to career readiness skills is a critical next step for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) as leaders in undergraduate research.

This award recognizes institutions with exemplary programs that provide high-quality research experiences for undergraduates. Now in its eighth year, the AURA award draws on CUR's "Characteristics of Excellence in Undergraduate Research", which outlines criteria for exceptional undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity programs.

On September 13, 2022, the Council on Undergraduate Research’s (CUR) Executive Board moved to approve the submitted name rephrasing to the formerly known Mathematics and Computer Sciences Division effective immediately. The approval comes with a Divisional name change: the Mathematical, Computing, and Statistical Sciences Division (MCS).

Dr. Bethany Usher, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, has been elected to serve as president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). Usher will become president-elect on July 1, 2022, taking a seat on CUR’s Executive Board, and succeeding 2022-2023 CUR president Ruth Palmer (emeritus College of New Jersey) in the summer of 2023.
