Newswise — NEW YORK -- LIU has adopted “I Love New York Water,” an initiative of the Monday Campaigns which fosters healthy agendas on college campuses across the nation. Campus constituents signed pledges to forego bottled water, opting for economical and eco-friendly refillable water bottles that can be topped off at any of the dozens of water refill stations on campuses.
“The LIU community is building a culture of sustainability and wellness,” said Dr. Kimberly R. Cline, president of LIU. “We are proud to support the I Love NY Water initiative which is directly aligned with our efforts to foster conservation, healthy living, and inspire social responsibility.”
The university distributed 1,000 free LIU refillable bottles with I Love NY Water stickers and collected supporters’ signatures on its campuses. Campus water refill stations are labeled to remind everyone that New York tap water is pure, free and good for the environment.
"We are truly excited to be working with LIU,” said Sid Lerner, founder of I Love NY Water. “The campaign encourages students and faculty alike to get in the habit of drinking our state's tap famous water, using a refillable water bottle. It saves money, it's readily available and keeps massive amounts of disposable bottles from clogging our landfills and harming our ocean life. Our goal is to work with schools across New York State in order to see large scale results.”
