New book links low-fat diet with reduced migraines

Mind-numbing headaches known as migraines may be brought on by eating too much fat, a UCI College of Medicine researcher has found. In a new book, Zuzana Bic, assistant professor of hematology and oncology and a preventive medicine specialist, details how her research has found that people who ate a low-fat diet had fewer and less painful migraine headaches. "No More Headaches, No More Migraines" is being published by Avery Press. "This book shows that by making lifestyle changes like reducing fat intake, exercising more and handling stress, you can reduce the severity and frequency of migraines, if not eliminate them altogether," Bic said. She's now studying how lifestyle changes that prevent migraines may help stave off severe disorders such as diabetes and cancer later in life.
