Newswise — Karen Anderson, RN, MSN, MBA, has been named chief nurse executive for Loyola University Health System http://www.loyolamedicine.org (LUHS). In this role, Anderson will implement initiatives to maintain high-quality, patient-centered care across Loyola’s inpatient and outpatient facilities.

Anderson previously served as vice president of Perioperative & Procedural Services and as interim chief nurse executive at Loyola. In this role, she worked with nursing leadership to implement hourly rounding practices across the organization. Anderson also helped to develop a leadership model in which nurses and physicians work together to drive process and performance improvement.

Anderson replaces Paula Hindle, MSN, MBA, RN, who was recently named vice president of nursing strategy and practice for LUHS. Anderson will work closely with Hindle to develop strategic plans for the advancement of nursing in collaboration with Loyola’s parent organization, CHE Trinity Health, and with Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing and other key partners.

“Karen brings valuable hospital administration, nursing leadership and patient care experience that will be integral to this role,” Hindle said. “Her experience makes her an ideal fit to drive nursing care as it becomes increasingly important in our changing health-care environment."

Prior to Loyola, Anderson worked at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a variety of roles, including associate chief nurse executive, director of operations and director of surgical services. She also worked in various nursing and leadership positions at University of Illinois at Chicago and the former Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Anderson earned her bachelor’s degree from Mundelein College in Chicago. She completed her master of science in nursing from Aurora University and her master of business administration from North Park University both in the Chicago area.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association of Operating Room Nurses, the American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
