Newswise — MAYWOOD, Ill. - Loyola Center for Fitness will host a free women’s health and wellness day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2160 S. First Ave., Maywood.

“This event provides women with an opportunity to make their health and wellness a priority,” said Jaimie Lehotsky, executive director, Loyola Center for Fitness. “It also offers valuable information and tools to help women care for themselves and their families."

Women’s Day activities will include blood pressure screenings, exhibits and seminars on topics such as chronic pelvic pain, osteoporosis, metabolic surgery, bariatric care and the latest in screening for breast cancer. Women's Day also will feature experts in aesthetics, fitness, nutrition, endocrinology and osteoporosis care.

Women’s Day speakers include:

9:30 a.m. – Loyola minimally invasive gynecologist Linda Yang, MD, will discuss treatment approaches for chronic pelvic pain.

10:45 a.m. – Loyola radiologists Kathleen Ward, MD, and Robert Wagner, MD, will address the controversy surrounding screening for breast cancer and osteoporosis.

Noon – Loyola’s weight-loss specialists Bipan Chand, MD, and Allison Grupski, PhD, will review metabolic surgery and bariatric care.

1:15 p.m. – Loyola dietitian Cristina Harder, MA, RD, LD, and personal trainer Val Walkowiak, BS, CPT, will lead a Q&A session about nutrition and fitness. For the first time this year, Women’s Day will conclude with “Party in Pink” – a two-hour Zumbathon to raise money for breast cancer charities. The Zumbathon will feature four teachers from noon – 2 p.m. Participants can drop in at any time for a suggested donation of $20.
