According to the 2007 Journal Citation Reports© published by ThomsonReuters, over 65% of 147 ranked LWW journals increased their impact factor. The impact factor measures the frequency with which peer-reviewed journals are cited by other researchers. Notable showings include the journal Circulation, which increased its impact factor 17% to 12.755.

Circulation continues to hold the #1 spot in the categories of Peripheral Vascular Disease, Hematology, and Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems. LWW now dominates the Peripheral Vascular Disease category, publishing the top six journals: Circulation; Circulation Research; Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology; Hypertension; Stroke; and Current Opinion in Lipidology. LWW is a strong presence in specialties including Hematology, publishing three of the top five journals; Obstetrics & Gynecology, publishing two of the top five journals; and Anesthesiology, publishing four of the top ten journals.

LWW is also the publisher of top-ranked journals including Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (now #1 in Pediatrics) and Annals of Surgery (#1 in Surgery.) In Clinical Neurology, Neurology® is the top-cited journal for the seventh year in a row, and has risen from #6 to #5 in impact factor. Spine is most-cited in Orthopedics, and ranks third in impact factor; Transplantation is most-cited in the Transplantation category.

Other notable gains were achieved: RETINA®: The Journal of Retinal and Vitreous Diseases,nearly doubled its impact factor in Ophthalmology this year to 3.088, and leapt from #23 to #6. Current Opinion in Psychiatry more than doubled its impact factor (categories Psychiatry/Social Sciences and Psychiatry/Science.) Journal of Neuropathology & Experimental Neurology moved from #6 to #3 in Pathology with an impact factor of 4.718. Journal of Burn Care and Research increased its impact factor by 39% (now #3 of 12 in Emergency Medicine.) And Epidemiology climbed into the top 5 in Public, Environmental, and Occupational Health, with an impact factor of 5.283.
