Newswise — Baltimore, MD – Mauro Moscucci, M.D., M.B.A., a board-certified specialist in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, has joined LifeBridge Health as chief of medicine for Sinai Hospital and medical director of the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute.

Moscucci will be leading the advancement of the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute, a comprehensive center that provides advanced patient-centered care and conducts groundbreaking cardiovascular research at Sinai and Northwest hospitals. The institute’s integrated centers and programs are dedicated to preventing, treating and improving outcomes for heart disease, vascular disease and stroke.

The LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute is comprised of several centers working in coordination to provide individualized care to patients, including personalized medicine, less invasive treatments and support services.
• The Beverly & Jerome Fine Cardiac Valve Center offers a multidisciplinary, individualized approach for patients with heart valve disease. The services include state-of-the-art minimally invasive and traditional valve replacement or valve repair and medical management for patients.
• Specialists at the Ben and Zelda Cohen Heart Rhythm Center at Sinai Hospital diagnose and treat heart rhythm conditions, such as arrhythmias. They offer treatments such as cryoablation, using extremely cold temperatures to freeze tiny portions of heart tissue that are not functioning properly.
• The Benjamin and Margaret Schapiro Cardiac Diagnostic Center merges the latest in medical technology and patient comfort, and it features five state-of-the-art catheterization labs. • The Sinai Center for Thrombosis Research is recognized in the international cardiology and thrombosis community as a leader in the field of antithrombotic therapy. The expertise of the lab focuses on anti-platelet drug development, antithrombotic therapy and personalized anti-platelet therapy.
• The Sinai Division of Cardiac Surgery is comprised of highly skilled cardiac surgeons who provide comprehensive care for patients dealing with cardiac conditions. Surgeons use state-of-the art and minimally invasive approaches to restore blood flow to the heart as well as to repair and replace heart valves.
• Cardiac Rrehabilitation at LifeBridge Health is a three-phase program designed to help with recovery after a heart attack, angioplasty and/or stenting, and open-heart surgery, as well as stable chest pain. This is a medically-supervised program concentrating on lifestyle changes and education for patients and family members.
• Other services at the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute include the Emergency Chest Pain Center (in coordination with Sinai Hospital’s ER-7), a newly opened Heart Failure Center and LifeBridge Health’s Anticoagulation Clinics, which monitor adult patients who may be at increased risk of blood clots due to the use of blood thinners.
Moscucci comes to LifeBridge Health from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in Florida, where he served as chairman of the Department of Medicine and chief of the cardiovascular division. He was also the service chief of medicine and cardiology at the University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Moscucci has authored more than 300 published medical papers, abstracts and book chapters. In addition, he is the editor of the latest (8th) edition of “Grossman and Baim’s: Cardiac Catheterization, Angiography and Intervention”, one of the classic textbooks in cardiology, and the editor of the textbook “Complications of Cardiovascular Procedures: Risk factors, Management and Bailout Techniques.”
